Please read the typical commitment required to achieve each of the permits before indicating your preference:
Minibus Driving
- Full UK driving licence
- 2 hour assessment
- One weekend / three or four evenings per year in return for funding
Crate Stacking, Zip Wire, Abseiling @ Phasels Wood
- 1 x 1 day’s training/assessment
- 2 or 3 x evening sessions (2 hrs each) per year in return for funding
Target Sports (archery / rifle shooting)
- 1 x 1 weekend’s training/assessment
- 2 or 3 x evening sessions (2 hrs each) per year in return for funding
Hill-walking – for Terrain 2 (Terrain 1 will require less input)
- Approx. 20 x day hikes – either leading or participating (previous experience can count)
- 1 x familiarisation day (local – Tring Park / Ivinghoe etc)
- 1 x training weekend (Peak District or similar)
- 5 x day hikes as consolidation (DofE sessions, day hikes etc)
- 1 x training weekend (Peak District or similar) to include night navigation/micro-navigation)
- 5-10 x personal day hikes
- 10 x hike leadership days
Climbing – artificial walls (e.g. Phasels Wood)
- 1 x training day (Phasels Wood)
- 1 x day helping at Phasels Wood to consolidate learning
- 10-15 hours of consolidation (evening sessions)
- 1 x day training
- 1 x assessment day
- three or four 2 hour sessions per year in return for funding
Climbing – real rock
See above, plus:
- 1 x weekend training on real rock (Stanage Edge / Birchen Edge etc)
- 4 x days climbing (20 x good climbing routes)
- 1 x assessment weekend
- one weekend / three or four evenings per year in return for funding
