A group of 4 young people from Hemel Hempstead District Scouts , Jake Pass, Charlie Gower, William Gower and James Price have been selected to represent Hemel Hempstead, Hertfordshire and the United Kingdom at the 22nd World Scout Jamboree in Sweden in 2011.
A Jamboree is a world wide gathering of scouts, where you can make international friends and to help the world’s community. The theme of the Jamboree is “Simply Scouting”. At the Jamboree we will be meeting new people, making new friends and have a once is a life time opportunity. We will leave at the end of July and fly to Copenhagen for a pre-Jamboree party with the rest of the UK contingent. We will then go onto to the Jamboree.
During the Jamboree we will be taking part in activities with scout from around the world, including sharing other cultures, community service and adventurous challenges. At some point during the camp we will go off site onto a back to basics camp. The highlight of this adventure is meeting people from all over the world and being able to learn new scouting skills from different countries and teaching the skills we know.
It all started when we attended the selection weekend on November 2009. We have already begun our jamboree experience by meeting together as a Hertfordshire unit and getting to know other young people from across Hertfordshire who we will be sharing this experience with.. We now know our unit quite well and have already made many new friends.
As a group we’ve done a few fund-raising events to help pay for our trip and they have been very successful. One of our biggest fund-raising event will be running a Santa’s train ride at Cassiobury park on Saturday 11th December from 10:30am-5pm.
